I don’t really talk about it much, but I’m a musician (surprise). In fact I was a career musician, though it feels like a lifetime away.
I have 4 solo records to my name, two of which were nominated for SAMA (South African Music Awards) and I used to spend up to 7 months of the year on the road, having toured 80+ cities worldwide.
It’s been 10 years between records, the reasons are varied, but when I got married I decided to come of the road, switched to the other side of the glass and became a producer, engineer and studio owner, up until 3 years ago when my son was born.
In January this year I decided it was time to work on a new record. I shared so casually on Facebook and was overwhelmed by the response from some of South Africa’s most celebrated musicians, all offering to join me in studio.
We cut these 5 songs in almost as many days with my good friend David Langemann and it was further mixed and mastered in Nashville, TN by multi-award winning engineer, Vance Powell, a friend and mentor.
Unknowingly the songs began to tell a story, a story of love found, lost, broken and ultimately restored, becoming “When Good Hearts Break”.
It’s out on iTunes for under $5, so grab a copy if it resonates with you.
I’ve also added the Soundcloud stream below, if you want to stream the record.
